Port of Brunswick Colonels Island Auto ImportsPort of Brunswick’s Amazing Growth

The Port of Brunswick, which is composed of Colonel’s Island Terminal and Mayor’s Point Terminal, has been hugely successful because of the direct access to rail and interstate 95.   Colonel’s Island handles automobiles and also agro-bulk.  Mayor’s Point Terminal handles break bulk that consist largely of wood pellets.

Currently, the Port of Brunswick is the Number 1 port of new auto imports and second busiest for overall ro/ro cargo.  Colonel’s Island has just over 500 acres that are leased or owned by the automobile industry and there’s nearly 800 acres available for expansion.  The Georgia Ports Authority owns both the Port of Brunswick and the Port of Savannah and has played a major role in the port’s success.  The Georgia Ports Authority recognizes that Colonel’s Island has a competitive advantage for the automobile industry and they’ve decided to focus their efforts on that industry sector.

The Golden Isles are home to three airports and over 2,000 acres of available property surrounding the largest of the three, the Brunswick Golden Isles Airport (BQK). Brunswick Golden Isles Airport Industrial Property

The Brunswick Golden Isles Airport is located on the mainland and offers three daily 37 minute flights to Atlanta (ATL) through DELTA. The runway is 8,000 ft and once served as the runway for a Navy Base. The runway can handle just about any type of aircraft which is one of the reasons why Gulfstream Aerospace has located their finishing facility in the Golden Isles.

The McKinnon St Simons Airport is located on St Simons Island where business and vacation travelers can fly straight into the heart of three of the Golden Isles. McKinnon is a busy general aviation facility serving pilots and passengers with the most up-to-date services in the midst of an island beach/golf/nature getaway. The airport has two active runways – 4/22 at 5,800 feet long and 16/34 at 3,313 feet long. Several non-precision approaches provide inclement-weather access, as well as a visual guidance system to assist pilots on landing.

The Jekyll Island Airport is the perfect airport for quick get aways to Georgia’s Jewel, Jekyll Island.

Interstate 95 and Highway Access

Brunswick and the Golden Isles is easily accessible via Interstate 95, an East Coast artery of commerce from Maine to Miami, and U.S. 17, a scenic route of incomparable beauty. U.S. 341/Golden Isles Parkway, U.S. 25, U.S. 82/GA 520 offer businesses direct access to all areas of Georgia. Additionally, Brunswick and the Golden Isles are serviced by eight local motor freight terminals and numerous motor freight carriers.

Norfolk Southern and CSX Rail Access

Glynn County is served by two Class I railroads, CSX and Norfolk Southern, in addition to one short line, the Colonel’s Island Railroad, owned and operated by Rail Link. AMTRAK passenger service is available about an hour’s drive away in Jesup, GA.
