Georgia’s Golden Isles Come to Atlanta

Golden Isles Community Day at Georgia Resource Center in AtlantaThe Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD) got a crash course on why Brunswick and the Golden Isles are Georgia’s Golden Opportunity.

The team from the Brunswick – Glynn County Development Authority along with elected officials and community leaders traveled to Atlanta on Monday to the Georgia Resource Center (GRC) to present to Project Managers from the GDEcD and Georgia Power. The community came together in an effort to tell the various groups located at the GRC who and what Brunswick and Glynn County are all about.

The event was organized by Chuck Scragg who provides business development services for the Development Authority out of Atlanta. Chuck stated “it is a rare event to be able to assemble a group such as the one that gathered this past Monday in Atlanta to hear our story. We had 32 in attendance!”

Going Straight to the Source

Business attraction is a big part of Development Authority’s mission. When a major business (aka Prospect) is considering locating in Georgia, the first step is often reaching out to the Georgia Department of Economic Development. From there, Project Managers find locations that best serve the Prospect’s needs so Georgia has the best chance of landing a new business.

John Scott, a Project Manager for the Development Authority said “the majority of Prospects that the Development Authority works with throughout the year come from the State, it’s critical they know what the Golden Isles have to offer.”

Community Day GRCA Huge Success

We had great attendance, the community came together to get our message across, and we’ve already got a few new projects as a result! “Our presentation was such a success because our community came together as one. We showed one face for economic development” stated Mel Baxter, Interim Director for the Brunswick – Glynn County Development Authority.

The presentation was to the point, on location, and gave a great overview of Brunswick and the Golden Isles.

  • Three minute video showing Glynn County’s industrial heritage and business assets
  • Thirty minute PowerPoint presentation by Interim Director Mel Baxter
  • Personal testimonials from several community leaders and elected officials
