Second Annual Glynn County Leadership Service Project – MAP International

Brunswick, Georgia is a community that knows how to work together.  42 of Glynn County’s elected officials, industry/business leaders, and other community leaders came together to roll up their sleeves and do some work for the “Second Annual Glynn County Leadership Service Project.”

The service project benefited MAP International, a local non-profit that ships medical supplies all over the world where they are desperately needed.  MAP received several large shipments that needed to be processed so the group unpackaged and sorted a variety of medical supplies so they could be distributed.

CNBC Names MAP International #2 Top Charity for Changing the World in 2015

Georgia’s Golden Isles has a lot of hidden gems – including one of the world’s most effective and world-changing non-profits.  CNBC has an annual top ten list of the charities that bring about the most change.  MAP International was recognized as #2 on this very prestigious list.

According to MAP.org, “MAP International is a global Christian health and relief organization that partners with people living in conditions of poverty to save lives and develop healthier families and communities.”

Bringing People Together and Creating an Amazing Business Climate

Existing industry support is a top priority for the Brunswick – Glynn County Development Authority and according to John Scott, the Business Retention and Expansion Manager at the Development Authority, “what is considered valuable to a company is as unique and different as the companies we serve and for MAP International, our community’s leadership coming together to support their cause is extremely valuable.”

The Development Authority is one of three Foreign Trade Zone Grantees in the State of Georgia and several years ago the Development Authority assisted MAP in designating their warehouse space as a Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ).  The FTZ allows MAP to import and export medical supplies without having to pay duties at every stage of the distribution process.

“Existing industry support is a continual process that requires constant attention.  You have to show your businesses you appreciate them even when you’re not assisting them with major projects.  It’s also great to see community leaders working together” stated Scott.
