Gulfstream Expansion Open for Business

Gulfstream HangarThe new Gulfstream facility is open for business.

The expansion, first announced in 2014, was officially completed near the end of May.

The addition, which included a new 110,000-square-foot maintenance repair and overhaul facility, took nearly a year to complete. It marks the company’s third facility at the Brunswick Golden Isles Airport.

Gulfstream, its main headquarters in Savannah, provides maintenance services for the G280, G450, G550, GIV and GV aircraft.

It also is a completion center for the G450 and G550 aircraft.
One of the greatest areas of impact made by the expansion was in job growth.

“At the January 2014 announcement, Gulfstream noted that the expansion is expected to create 100 additional jobs,” said Steve Cass, vice president of technical marketing and communications at Gulfstream Aerospace Corp.

“At the end of (the first quarter of 2015), Gulfstream had approximately 250 people employed at the Brunswick facility, an increase of about 50 employees since (the first quarter of 2014). These additional jobs are primarily high-skilled employees who are certified to perform maintenance work on our aircraft.”

The addition is a big boost — a $26 million capital investment — to Glynn County.

Mel Baxter, interim director of the Brunswick and Glynn County Development Authority, is excited to see the hangar come to fruition. He expects the company to see continued success, which will undoubtedly mean even more good news for Brunswick in the future.
“It’s really great that they are open,” Baxter said.
